Chapter 13: Elation

December 22, 2016

I was an unknown person who believed in a dream. As much as I wished that I could stay in my comfort zone and wait for the world to come to me, I knew that the time had come to raise awareness. To reveal my message on a global scale. I carefully planned the strategy, and sent my heart out for all to see. I waited. Silence. After a few minutes, though, the responses started coming through. “Wow. It worked.” The trickle grew into a constant flow of feedback, and I was absolutely tickled. “It’s working. I can’t believe it. That was easy.” Reaching that point had been a rollercoaster of emotions, from the lowest of lows to the almost highest heights. Days passed, and I awaited the moment when someone fell in love with my work so much that they would its constant presence. The numbers grew, but still no indication that my message was getting through…not the way I wanted. There had to be a bright side, though.

I sat outside looking at the mountains, and noticed a happy little sunflower dancing in the breeze. Its intricate details engaged my curiosity and provided a much-needed escape. I studied the geometric pattern of the petals and disc florets, each layer of which played a role in the survival of the species. The charm of the little flower was the transition from the brilliant yellow to the vivid green of unopened disc florets. “Amazing design.” As I moved in closer, I noticed a miniscule drop of water perched perfectly on the center of the bloom. A translucent presence that somehow stood out in a sea of yellow and green.

I thought of my experience just moments before. Feeling as if I was unnoticed because I wasn’t seeing the results I imagined. That little sunflower put things in perspective, though. Like that little drop of water, my message was floating about in a sea of information, yet it was strong enough to capture the attention of thousands of strangers around the world. I had touched their hearts to a degree that motivated them to share their elation with me. I had contributed to their day, perhaps shown them a beauty that they did not know existed. I smiled softly with the knowledge that I was contributing to the lives of others, offering help and support in my own unique way. I felt at peace and ready to begin this new phase of the journey.
